Cerro Metal Products Company History

Cerro Metal Products dates back to 1915 when its Bellefonte Works began operations as Alpha Metal Co. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Titan Metal Company and in 1925, the company was re-organized and the name again changed to Titan Metal Manufacturing Company.Ownership of Titan passed to Consolidated Coppermines Corporation in 1947, then to Cerro Corporation in 1959 and, through merger in 1976, to The Marmon Group, Inc.

A Newark, California plant was established in 1957 for melting, casting, and extrusion. A new plant, fully equipped for the forging and machining of brass and aluminium along with supporting tool and die production, was opened in mid-1979.

In 1986, Cerro Metal Products Company acquired a brass mill in the Los Angeles area, at Paramount, formerly operated by American Brass, and subsequently closed the Newark, CA facility.

Several expansion programs at the Weyers Cave, Virginia plant have doubled the size of that facility to 108,000 square feet! Cerro also acquired Accurate Forge (with plants in Bristol, CT and Brave, PA) and assimilated this company into its forging and parts operation. Today, these companies are independently operated as part of the Marmon Group of Companies.

Headquarters for the company is at the Bellefonte, PA plant with direct field sales personnel located in major metalworking regions throughout the country.

The purchase of the 50,000 square foot Shenandoah Facility in 1991 was a welcome addition to the company. A modernization of the Bellefonte mill, completed in 1999, included a new warehouse, upgraded rod finishing, and a new indirect extrusion press. Cerro added two new Schumag machines in 2001 that greatly expanded our ability to produce more small diameter rod less than 1/2" in diameter. Cerro already produces the smallest diameter rod in the domestic industry and this expansion allows Cerro to meet more of our customers' growing small diameter rod requirements in 2001 and thereafter.
